Event - The Official Opening of our School Hall

12 February 2009

On Thursday, 12th February 2009, England International cricketer Luke Wright officially opened our School Hall. Luke is a former pupils of Redmile, and one we are very proud of.

Many invited guests joined staff, governors, parents, and pupils for the ceremony, including: representatives from the Local Authority, Melton Borough Council, Seddons the builders, former staff and members of the steering group, as well as the architect, Luke's parents and friends within the community.

Luke unveiled a special plaque to commemorate the occasion and cut the special ribbon made by all the children. Everyone then entered the hall and were treated to a cricket demonstration by Luke and some of our star athletes. He gave everyone lots of catches and even let the children bowl him out! The children then sang our Redmile Rap to him, before signing hundreds of autographs!

He is a real credit to Redmile School - a credit to his family and a credit to his country. We are very honoured that he managed to find the time to join us on the momentous occasion, particularly as he was due to fly out to New Zealand two days later.

The celebrations continued with delicious refreshments being served throughout the day, as neighbours from around the villages dropped in to see the children enjoying some circus skills workshops, followed by their first ever whole school disco!

Hopefully, the children will remember this very special day for many years to come.

Everyone nervously waiting.
